Mario Kart 8 riconquista la vetta delle classifiche giapponesi, sfondando quota 400.000 copie vendute e superando senza problemi il debutto di The Legend of Heroes: Ao No Kiseki Evolution per PlayStation Vita (quinto) e di One Piece: Unlimited World Red per PlayStation 3 (sesto).
Sul fronte hardware si registra un calo nelle vendite del Nintendo 3DS XL, che però rimane davanti a PlayStation Vita e Wii U, in risalita proprio grazie a Mario Kart 8.
