BioWare ha pubblicato i requisiti di sistema minimi e consigliati per poter giocare a Mass Effect 2 in versione PC ed ha inoltre dettagliato quale sarà il sistema di protezione dalle copie inserito all'interno del gioco. Con sollievo da parte degli utenti che paventassero problemi di varia natura, si tratta solamente di un sistema di protezione di base che chiederà un controllo sul DVD nel lettore e non richiederà invece alcun genere di autenticazione online, in maniera assolutamente parallela a quanto adottato con Dragon Age: Origins. Le copie vendute in digital delivery utilizzeranno i sistemi di protezione nativi dei rivenditori.
